Fontallorso lies next to the green forests of Casentino, 25 minutes away from south Florence and roughly 700 mt above sea level. The hills surrounding Fontallorso are entirely covered in woods and vineyards, ideal for long immersive walks across an extremely wild natural landscape, despite being a stone’s throw from Florence.
Hospitality
Entirely surrounded by nature, Fontallorso Farmhouse enjoys an enchanting location between the woods, the Casentino Hills and the Forest of Vallombrosa. Set 700 mt above sea level, just a few kilometres from Consuma mountain pass, our farmhouse is immersed in the unwinding peace of chestnut and beech trees, and blessed with a striking 360° view over the mellow Casentine hills.
You can easily reach Fontallorso from Florence, which is only 25 km away, or from the nearby town of Pontassieve. A discounted taxi service between its railway station and our structure is always available.
Fontallorso Farmhouse is located in the historical site of Villa Caffarelli: a 1400 sqm Patrician mansion dating back to the end of the 19th century.
Originally built as the abode of Duke Caffarelli’s noble family, it has now been restructured to modern standards including mobility impaired guests facilities.
Fontallorso Farmhouse is the result of a conservative renovation, (following the guidelines of bioarchitecture). where only recyclable materials are used: gThe oak windows bear double low emissivity glasses for optimal thermal insulation (Fontallorso is certified under Energy Class A) in a compete absence of dust and synthetic chemicals within structural materials.
Heating and domestic hot water are produced by a biomass boiler (wood, pellets, ecological grains) which guarantees thermal comfort.
The Bedrooms
The atmosphere of both external and internal environments is simple, warm and welcoming. The harmonious, essential setting favours introspection and an encounter with oneself and nature.
The structure can accommodate up to 24 people in spacious and comfortable rooms, all with en-suite bathroom 2 to 4 bed accommodations (single room also available) furnished in retro-taste vintage style.
An expansion of the structure’s reception capacity is scheduled shortly, in order to accommodate up to 50 people and meet the demand of larger groups.

You are therefore welcome to express any request or report that you may consider useful. Please note that the facility can accommodate mobility impaired guests and all spaces are free of architectural barriers.
PARKING AREA:
The structure has private outdoor unguarded parking.
LIFT:
An elevator connecting all floors is available inside the farmhouse.
PAYMENTS:
Payments can be made either in cash or by debit or credit card.
TAXI:
It is possible to transfer to and from the local railway station at a discounted.
INTERNET:
You can connect to the internet. Wi-Fi is free.
EXCURSIONS:
Wonderful places are at short reach of Fontallorso for you to visit, such as the Arno River Source, the Casentino Forests, the Sammezzano Castle and many more. Our guests may also take advantage of the expertise of our friend Andrea, an outdoor guide who will be glad to take you on a trekking tour or for a relaxing walk.
FOR EVERYONE’S CONVENIENCE:
–Animals are not allowed inside the structure due to the frequent presence of allergic people.
– All guests are invited to behave respectfully of the quiet and relaxation of other guests;
– In the Activity Rooms shoes are not allowed, you are invited to wear anti-slip socks;
– All guests are required to make conscious use of the environments, props and furnishings;
– Smoking is not allowed in all indoor areas.
Our Products
Besides the seasonal products of our organic vegetable garden, that we grow for our kitchen using no chemical fertilisers or pesticides, at Fontallorso you’ll be able to enjoythe luscious nectar offered by our bees. About 150 hives are nurtured and cuddled by Sorin, and the honey produced is mainly composed of chestnut and acacia flowers, although our bees are also keen on the rosemary flowers blooming abundantly around the the farmhouse! 1kg, 500g and 250g jars are available for our guests to enjoy directly with Fontallorso’s breakfasts, or to bring home as table honey and as a natural sweetener for your herbal teas!
Our kitchen
Our menus are exclusively vegetarian and vegan and respectful of the individual needs of our guests; we will be happy to meet particular dietary guidelines, such as intolerance or allergy to any specific food. Fontallorso is endowed with a large kitchen equipped for the preparation of 100 meals. Our meals are cooked by our chefs that, with the sole use of fresh products from our 800 sqm organic vegetable garden or local organic and biodynamic farms (ancient grain flour, Monococco spelt, Casentino flour, biodynamic cheese), prepare excellent dishes inspired by simplicity and genuineness.
